Sherrell is a retired teacher of Spanish and Technology Applications with a BS Ed. degree from the University of Texas at Austin and an M. A. degree in Spanish Literature from Texas Tech University.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Sherrell has taught and worked in California, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas.
